The Invisible Children Assembly November 17 kicked off a fund-raising effort, which Clovis West seems to be taking to heart this holiday season.

A video called “The Rescue” was shown during the assembly to provide insight into the importance of raising money for children in Africa and inspired many to join the efforts. “The assembly brought in a lot of new students to the Invisible Children Club,” advisor Erla Stanley said.

Currently a national competition, “Schools 4 Schools” is underway. It aims to raise money and awareness in schools across the nation. If Clovis West is one of the top money-raising schools it can select one student to visit the distressed country of Uganda with the stars of “The Rescue,” Bobby, Jason and Laren.

The winning student will be selected from the top classroom or club on campus which contributes the most money to the event. Collection envelopes are available in every classroom or club on campus, according to Stanley.

Last year, Clovis West raised more than 27,000 books for Uganda. The goal is $6,000 to rebuild Anaka, a school in Southern Africa.

Principal Ben Drati believes contributing money to Uganda is an excellent opportunity for Clovis West students to give back on a global basis. Students will be able to provide supplies to children who have no such opportunities.

All the money contributed will go directly to the children in Uganda.  “This money will make a big difference in a child’s life,” said Stanley. “We have a lot more kids than last year with big hearts and are ready and willing to help the children of Africa.”

A new program which began December 7, “One 4 One,” asks every student to donate $1 for the next two weeks. That drive and “Schools 4 Schools” have the ability to dramatically help Africa, according to Stanley.
