A teenager walks by texting on her phone, summing up about 10,000 texts a month. A business man speedily walks with his briefcase in one hand and his Iphone in his other. The Apple iPhone is now available to people in 77 different countries. Last week, Apple announced there are now more than 85,000 iPhone and iPod Touch applications available to download in the ‘App Store’. “The rate of App Store downloads continues to accelerate with users downloading a staggering two billion apps in just over a year, including more than half a billion apps this quarter alone,” said Apple’s CEO, Steve Jobs.

We’ve all encountered it; we’ve all succumb to it; we’ve all fought against it—Disney Channel. Truly a love-hate relationship, Disney crept its way into our heart as youngsters in the variety of classics ranging from Aladdin to Winnie the Pooh. It was our safe-zone for movies and shows—honest entertainment with that parental stamp of approval. Disney catered to our every need; every girl is a princess and every boy is a hero. Carrying us safely into the adolescent world, this illusion soon went face to face with reality.

The ultimate purpose of all of education, (elementary, intermediate and high school included), is to achieve yet another standard of higher learning—also known as college. Not only has college been socially accepted throughout the centuries, but has also become an American standard; and while attending a top notch public high school as Clovis West, how can one even question the idea of college? Stretching from lack of maturity to lack of finances, the arguments to not attend college directly out of high school are varied and immense.

An air of hypocrisy lingers in the atmosphere of Clovis West. The Eagles of Honor poster is stretched across the campus, yet honor in our administration is hard to find. After the graduation speeches last year, we suspected it. After ASB elections we knew it. After Homecoming we are sick of it.
