“Jumped the shark” is a term used in the television industry to describe the exact moment when a good show goes bad. The term was coined after an episode of Happy Days when main character Fonzie jumped a shark on jet skis to prove his masculinity – wearing a swim suit and leather jacket. Many viewers believe this was when the show began its decline.
